🚗 By car

Park in the designated lots at the site entrance. From there, you have two options: 1/ hop on a free shuttle, or 2/ walk for about 30–45 minutes along the scenic footbridge. Personally, I highly recommend walking — it’s the best way to soak in the atmosphere! And trust me, it’s a gentle and sometimes fun walk (especially when a few 🐑 sheep cross your path 😉).

🚌 By train + shuttle

You can take a train to Pontorson or Rennes, then board a Keolis shuttle or regional TER line to reach the Mont. It’s a smart way to skip traffic! I’ve personally enjoyed coming from Paris by train — arriving in Pontorson and using a single ticket that covers the bus all the way to the Mont. I tested it recently while visiting family in Paris. Super convenient and budget-friendly! ⚠️ Please note: some shuttle lines only run in high season. Always check the official website before planning your trip.

🚴 By bike or on foot

Dedicated greenways lead you all the way to the Mont, with secure bike parking (P9, near the dam…). I’m not usually a huge fan of cycling 😂 but I loved the route along the Couesnon River! Don’t forget your binoculars — the bay’s wildlife is incredible all year round. For real cycling enthusiasts, it’s even possible to ride all the way from Paris! Yes, really 😲 — it’s called La Véloscénie, a scenic long-distance bike trail 👉 check the official site here.

And on foot? That’s truly the best way to soak up the atmosphere... and enjoy my audio guide on the way 😉. You can start your walk from Pontorson or Beauvoir — which often means free parking too! The guide starts right by the Tourist Information Center (CIT), on the pedestrian path to the right.

🚶 Come early... or late!

Avoid the crowds by arriving before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. These time slots offer a calmer atmosphere and beautiful light. My personal favorite? Late afternoon! It’s perfect for a sunset picnic with an unforgettable view over the Bay 🌅 Mont Saint-Michel and the village are open 24/7, so feel free to come early or stay after the last shuttles — it adds even more magic to the experience. (And please, don’t forget to take your trash with you 🙏)

🚌 You don’t always need the shuttle

Yes, the shuttle is convenient… but it can also be crowded. Honestly, I prefer the walk! The 2.8 km path to the Mont offers breathtaking views of the bay and the village ahead. It’s a perfect moment to disconnect from the modern world and ease into the timeless setting. Take your time — the walk is easy and accessible for everyone.

💧 Bring water (and a rain jacket)

Weather here can change quickly — winds, tides and sun play by their own rules. A small water bottle and a windbreaker can really make a difference. You might hear locals say “four seasons in one day”… and they’re not joking! Even if it’s sunny at the parking lots, the footbridge or village can feel very different. The stone alleyways trap wind and shade quickly. Also, wear good walking shoes or hiking sneakers — and bring a towel if you plan to step into the bay! ☕ The tiniest café/restaurant at Mont Saint-Michel!

Once you’ve entered the village, walk up the main street. Almost at the top, right across from Saint-Pierre Church, you’ll find “Le Pèlerin” — a local favorite among guides and people working on the Mont. Homemade pizzas, sandwiches, hot dogs, croque-monsieur and delicious desserts. Laurent, Adélie and their team welcome you almost every day!

Mont Moulin Bakery is located in Beauvoir — the last village before you reach Mont Saint-Michel. Perfect for breakfast, a picnic, or a well-deserved treat. You won’t be disappointed!

A cozy restaurant just minutes from Mont Saint-Michel. Homemade bistro-style dishes with local ingredients, all served in a rustic-chic farmhouse. The perfect spot before or after your visit.

A great deal, with delicious dishes — including the famous salt-meadow lamb! Bonus: if you book ahead, you can park in the private lot and walk to the Mont or catch the shuttle easily. Convenient and tasty!

📜 Culture & Heritage: The Scriptorial

Located in Avranches, this museum invites you into the medieval past of Mont Saint-Michel through original manuscripts and immersive exhibits.

Modern, educational, and great for all ages. While you're there, visit the local botanical garden — the only spot with a view of all three mounts: Mont Saint-Michel, Tombelaine, and Mont Dol. It’s perfect for a photo break! 📸

👨👩👧👦 Family fun: La Ferme des Cara-Meuh!

This working farm is full of charm! Friendly cows, farm tours, and homemade caramels — perfect for kids and grown-ups alike.

Free visits, live milking sessions, a boutique full of local treats, and even souvenirs to bring home. Just nearby: Pointe du Grouin du Sud offers stunning views of the Bay and Mont Saint-Michel — ideal during high tides to watch the sea rush back in. It’s quite a show!

🌸 Wellness: Ô Calm in Avranches
